Who We Are

In 2005 northern Uganda was deep in the midst of terrifying war, fear, and despair. At that time God brought together three believers - Martin and Hope Onen of northern Uganda and Carole Vezey of the United States - and called them to reach out to this oppressed region. Not knowing how to begin, they dedicated themselves to prayer, seeking direction and vision. After six months of doing no other ministry but prayer, God told them how he wanted them to help the north. "Turn on the light."

With darkness in every form covering northern Uganda, these three believers had to believe that bringing in the light was powerful enough to effect real change, real hope, and lasting results. But, they would not need to step out alone. One by one, God led other northern Ugandans to them each with the burden to reach their own people - many of which were already pastors in the community thereby uniting the churches to do this work together. Soon God had built a solid team and broader church network that would fearlessly bring the gospel, hope, and training into all of northern Uganda.

At that time virtually every person in northern Uganda lived in the 240+ Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps to "protect" them from the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). Favor of God began by going into these camps, living with the people, holding Portable Bible Schools, teaching, and discipling. With desperate need in all areas of life, God also led Favor of God to reach out to whomever cried out for help. Soon Favor of God was ministering to government officials, in the army barracks, over the radio, in the prisons, to more and more IDP camps with Trauma Counseling and Biblical Training, with medical care, and to the children with the House of Hope children's home and a christian primary school.

Now, the LRA is presently out of northern Uganda, the people are being encouraged to return to their villages to farm, and people have hope for peace and growth. We believe that all of this is the result of light of the gospel and the hope that it brings in all areas of life. Northern Uganda must continue to heal and develop, and we are certain that this can occur through the powerful work of God's Spirit through his people.
